A Successful First Year for BlaBlaCar in Croatia

Total Croatia News

During the first year of BlaBlaCar in Croatia, users shared 1.6 million kilometres of rides.

Global ridesharing service BlaBlaCar arrived in Croatia exactly one year ago, after the acquisition of the Hungarian AutoHop. To mark the occasion, BlaBlaCar has released a statistical overview of its activities, report Netokracija and Telegram on March 12, 2016.

According to data, users of the BlaBlaCar services in Croatia have offered a total of 60,000 seats and shared a total of 1.6 million kilometres of long-distance journeys. An average BlaBlaCar journey in Croatia is 299 kilometres long, while the most popular routes are Pazin-Zagreb, Rijeka-Zagreb and Split-Zagreb. Data show that the average user is 34 years old, while the blah-blah index indicates moderate talkativeness of the average passenger.

BlaBlaCar is the leading online service for sharing long-distance rides. Launched in 2003 in France, with a database of over 25 million members in 22 countries, the service is used by three million people every month.

The head of BlaBlaCar’s marketing and public relations for Croatia Antonija Bilić Arar would not reveal how many members they have in Croatia, but she said that they were satisfied with the results for their first year of operations. According to her, Croatia is their fastest growing market in the region since the cost of transport, fuel and tolls is quite high compared to the income of an average Croatian.

Their biggest competitors are Facebook groups. BlaBlaCar is therefore constantly working to improve services and introduce innovations in order to increase customer satisfaction. They have also introduced the two-way assessment system and are offering an option of a maximum two people in the back seat so that users can have a more comfortable ride. This year, Bilić Arar said, they plan to introduce an online reservation system – the app will record who and when is travelling together with an aim to increase the rideshare reliability.
