One of the problems of being the sunniest island in Europe is that when there is a heatwave, the chance of refreshing rain is a little less likely on your island than elsewhere.
There is no denying that this summer has been a hot one, and sun worshippers have been treated to uninterrupted blue skies for months now, perfect beach weather.
But for pink Englishmen…
I was awoken to the most wonderful sound and feeling at just after 01:00 this morning. Given the warm temperature, the Total Hvar family has moved four mattresses out onto the Total terrace, where the abundant breeze has the required cooling effect.
And in the middle of the night, the long-forgotten sound and feeling of raindrops falling on my face. With this heat, it was a pleasant way to wake up. Total Hvar Most Junior was the first into action, dragging her mattress into the house, waking her sister and exhorting her to do the same. I lay a few moments longer, relishing the rain and the considerable wind, before retiring too. A wonderful feeling, as was the sound of the intensifying shower.
And in the morning? A much fresher feeling about Jelsa, with just the hint of a cloud in another gorgeous blue sky, with the forecast telling us that Normal Sunshine Island Service will be resumed…
