Carić in Bulgaria, and Where to Buy Local Wines in Hvar Town

Total Croatia News

The rising star of Hvar wines, the Carić wine shop in Hvar Town is now open daily, as the wines from Svirče head for Bulgaria.

Followers of this blog will know I am a big fan of the wines of Ivo Carić from Svirče. Wines apart, it has been a pleasure watching this small family winery make such spectacular progress in the 18 months I have been following them. From the first exports to America to medals at the Balkans International Wine Competition, to star ratings in a German wine guide on Croatian wines to among the top ten Croatian reds sent to Hong Kong as determined by a Croatian panel of experts.

Fresh from strong performances in both Milan and Makarska, Team Carić are on the road again, the only Hvar winery taking part at the the 2013 Balkans International Wine Competition in Sofia from May 16-19. During a Google News interview with BWIC director recently, I asked her to name her favourite wines from the region, and up came that name Carić again…

So where can you get your hands on Carić wines? The good news for visitors in Hvar Town is that the winery has the only wine shop in the town, located at Riva 17 in a small alley. It also sells lots of other interesting island products from small producers – well worth a browse.

The wine which is attracting the most attention is their meaty Ploški Plovac, probably my favourite red on the island, while the Bogdanuša white (‘a gift from God’) is a refreshing early drinking white, made from a grape grown only on Hvar. Why not try them out?

The shop is open daily from Monday – Saturday from 09:00 – 16:00. Why not follow the shop on Facebook?
