You come to Croatia, you eat the traditional Croatian food, and your first thought that follows your exquisite meal is: how was that so good and how can I learn how to make it? Fortunately you’re in luck, and Hvar Tours has just the right experience for you.
To make your holiday all the more special, Hvar Tours offers up a traditional cooking class set in the abandoned Hvar village of Malo Grablje. As if this doesn’t already sound good enough, here’s what your day will look like.
This half day tour takes you to the picturesque and abandoned village of Malo Grablje, located on the island of Hvar just 5km away from the central Hvar square. In Malo Grablje you will meet your host Mr. Berti Tudor, the only resident remaining in this abandoned village. From there you will stroll through his lush gardens throughout the village, picking the necessary ingredients you’ll need to prepare your meal (lettuce, rosemary, basil, young onion). While touring and garden picking, you’ll also learn all about the history of the abandoned Malo Grablje, as Berti may be one of the best sources of information. Onto Berti’s family house after the garden tour, you will then learn how to begin preparing your meal the traditional island way, all while under the supervision and guidance of Mr. Tudor. Perhaps no one better to learn from, you’ll share a meal, some wine, and the most perfect isolated company.
Your 3 course meal will be as follows:
Appetizer: Local cheese with extra virgin olive oil made from the island/marinated anchovies/ different types of homemade pates from artichokes to peas.
Main Course: Wild boar prepared the “hunters way” with homemade gnocchi or Peka – traditional meal with lamb or mixed with lamb and veal under the iron bell covered with the ash.
Dessert: Pecica na tecicu, a special but simple traditional dessert with almonds or rožata, with prošek (sweet desert wine)
You’ll also be provided local wine, grappa, local brandy, and water.
This tour also provides pickup and dropoff off from your Hvar accommodation. You can pick whether you’d like a to create a lunch or dinner meal.
The price of the tour is €150 per person for 1-4 people or €110 per person for 5-12 people.
