Hvar Town has always been one of Croatia’s most picturesque tourism destinations, and indeed it is the birthplace of organised tourism in Europe, an event which will turn 150 years next year after the founding of the Hvar Health Society.
And how tourism has changed over those 150 years, and it would be interesting to see what Hvar’s 19th century tourism pioneers made of peak season tourism today.
Many locals over the years told me that the 1970s and 1980s were the golden years of Hvar tourism.
Have a look for yourself in this delightful 1972 video tour of Hvar Town.
