It has always been one of the most interesting, unusual and elegant buildings on Hvar for me – the 1920s colonnade close to Hotel Amfora, which ten years ago was transformed into a luxury beach club, as part of the Suncani Hvar makeover by Orco Group. For a little waterfront pampering and privacy close to the centre of Hvar Town, it is hard to beat, and The Times named it in their top hottest beaches in Europe in 2010.
Lazing in one of the private cabanas, it is not hard to understand why.

Apart from its striking appearance, Bonj is a very multi-purpose facility, one of the prime wedding locations in Dalmatia, a fabulous range of massage and wellness options, and some rather fine dining.
And so lunch. Before one could even look at the menu, a glass of Zlatan Posip and a stunning view were the order of the day.
What struck me about an afternoon at Bonj was that it really was private, if privacy is what you craved, but it also offered the perfect vantage point to overlook the considerable activities in the nearby beach below Hotel Amfora.
I had never eaten there before, and for those of you thinking of planning a wedding reception here, a big thumbs up on the food and service – beautifully presented and delicious. A rather inspiring seafood selection to get us started.
My tuna steak with accompanying vegetables hit the spot.
And the sea bass looked rather nice too.
A two-part dessert of a range of sorbet goodness.
Followed by individual portions of cheesecake. All rather fabulous, if the truth be told.
And what to do after lunch, if you have a little more time than I did yesterday? A gentle snooze in the breeze with the lapping of waves your biggest disturbance, perhaps?
Or perhaps a gentle massage before that snooze.
