Luxury Hvar Accommodation with Unique Offer: Scottish Hospitality

Having grown up in the UK on a diet of property shows on television where Brits take the plunge and buy houses abroad, with the intention of starting a new life, the topic has mildly fascinated me during my time on Hvar. As a real estate agent in a pre-Total Hvar incarnation, I watched them come, and I watched them (mostly) go. It was incredible how many people came to the island, bought a dream stone ruin on an idyllic Adriatic island, then did nothing with it when they realised how expensive and bureaucratic the renovation would be.

There were of course exceptions, but I have to admit that the omens were not good with my initial experience with a British couple called Mick and Chris from Brighton. After several emails back and forth, then hopped on a plane – their first time in Croatia. They agreed to buy the third property I showed them on the Monday morning – a sizable stone ruin with three stone outhouses – completed on the Friday, and went home a week after their arrival proud Croatian ruin owners.

Did they have any idea what they were doing?

I was half-expecting to be advertising their property for sale once more as they realised what they had done, but not only did they prove me wrong, they proved me VERY wrong, with not only a stunning house renovation, which provided a home for them and three quaint cottage accommodation around a central courtyard and – I think – the first swimming pool in Vrbanj, but also the thing that makes them unique from other accommodation on Hvar – their Scottish hospitality.

Many guests have commented on the delightful touches in the accommodation, a sign the project is done out of love as well as money, but the overriding memory for most is the warm welcome and hospitality that is embedded in the very name – Quaich is a Scottish word for welcome.

And while the sea view may be lacking, the Quaich offers a much more authentic Dalmatian village experience, with a heavy emphasis on natural goodness.
