Hvar Town in October is one of the most delightful times to visit. The season is winding down, the locals have made their money, the majority of tourists have gone, and there is an air of relaxation about the place, with locals able to catch their breath after another busy season.
In recent years, October has been a much more active month for events as well, and this year is no exception. One of the most romantic and charming is the annual Traditional Sailboat Festival (Feste Forske Pulene) when the area of Mandrac fills with traditional sailboats who converge for the weekend before taking part in a regatta. The event, organised by Metropol Mora, is one of my favourite on the island, and this year’s main event will take place on October 15-16, with the festival itself stretching to ten days. The official schedule is below – sadly only in Croatian (if anyone would like to tranlslate it into English, please send through and I will gladly add, as this really is a great tourism event).
