Another memorable summer on Hvar is coming to a close, and locals are more concerned at the moment with their olive groves, as they take advantage of some great weather to pick one of the great symbols of the healthy Hvar way of life.
It has been a good year for many, one of change for some, and one of great success stories for a few.
One that makes the list for the success stories is undoubtedly Senses Resort in Vrboska, the newly-renovated hotel of four-star quality that rose from the ashes of the old two-star Adriatic. Opening in early June, the new hotel was a little late for the season, but such was the expectation and the hard work of its sales staff, that one would not have noticed it was recently opened from the occupancy rate. Rather than closing in mid-September as previously, Senses was fully booked until the end of September, staying open with reasonable bookings well into October.
The ‘Senses Effect’ on tourism is now officially available to see with the release of official figures for the first nine months of the season in Vrboska.
Overnight stays – 129602, up 14% from 2015’s number of 113930
Number of tourists in 2016 in Vrboska – 15,434, up 19% from 12,927
These numbers should be even better when the October numbers and those extra hotels are counted.
As for 2017 – Senses plans to be open in April, not June this year, and with a full sinter to build on what has been an exceptional start since its makeover, the future for tourism in Vrboska is very bright indeed.
