It was another hot one yesterday as I dropped the kids off for a summer chess tournament in Hvar Town. The chess gathering was in the picturesque botanical gardens of the Franciscan monastery, far prettier than any chess location I had as a boy growing up in Manchester (and far prettier than ANYTHING in Manchester for that matter…).
I left the girls to it and come out to start the waterfront walk back to the main square for my next meeting, when the site of this pretty bay stopped me.
A regular August morning on Croatia’s premier island, but this bay, one of the few swimming spots in immediate walking distance of the centre of Hvar Town, had something extra to offer – quality swimming right next to one of the best restaurants on the island – Djordota Vartal.
