The Horses of the Sinj Alka

While all eyes were on Knin yesterday on the 20th anniversary of Operation Storm, a battle some 300 years ago will attract a similar amount of attention in nearby Sinj this weekend, as the town celebrates its 300th anniversary of the Siege of Sinj in 1715, with its traditional Alka knight tournament. 

The Alka knight tradition and its majestic horses are one of the most important cultural heritages in Croatia, and the tournament is attended each year by the Croatian president and broadcast on live national television.
