Svirce Invades Holland, and All Hvar Wine Roads Lead to Milan!

Total Croatia News

More export markets for the winemakers of Hvar, and another presentation in Italy.

The Hvar wine story continues…

There is no doubting that EU entry is both and opportunity and a threat to the Croatian wine industry. Mew markets have opened up, but Croatia has also opened up to lots of foreign imports. For the quality wines from Hvar, I saw EU entry as more of an opportunity than a threat, and it has been pleasing to see the quiet progress they are making in establishing new markets in other EU countries.

Next up is Holland, and the first combined shipment leaves the island today from Svirce. The village of wine’s two top producers – PZ Svirce and Ivo Caric – are sending a combined shipment. As far as I am aware, that means in recent months, wines from Svirce have found themselves in new markets in Italy, Austria, Hungary, Germany and now Holland, as well as America. Congratulations to both wineries.

Speaking of Italy, the wine promotion continues. After the successful tasting in Rome in October, the wines of Hvar will this time be heading to Milan on December 15, to accompany the HRT Symphany Orchestra.

Hvar Wine Association President Ivana Krstulovic Caric will present the wines of Hvar, together with Fedra Gamulin from the Faria Association, who will present the sweet and delicious delicacies of Hvar and her association. The 150 guests will include the deputy mayor of Hvar, the deputy minister of culture, general consul to Milan, Croatian ambassador and cultrural attache from the Rome Embassy, as well as various Italian dignitaries.

It promises to be a great night.
