A man I have been wanting to meet for some time…
I don’t think it is a secret to followers of the website that I have been known – on occasion – to enjoy a refreshing cold beer at The Office.
Of all beers I have tried in my time in Croatia, the clear winner for me is bottled Laško. Not a popular choice for many locals, perhaps, as the beer is from neighbouring Slovenia and not Croatia.
Having just come from a life in rural Africa, where goats are king, the sight of a beer with a goat on the label was one more reason to try it, and this Slovenian goat juice has been a regular part of the diet ever since.
A factory producing Laško in Split closed recently, and the Green Goat has been a little harder to find ever since, even more so due to the political fallout over the border dispute between Croatia and Slovenia.
Captain Nizaj has managed to keep a supply of the goat juice flowing through these troubled times, and yesterday introduced me to a man I had wanted to meet for some time – the Laško Pivo sales rep. We had a fun chat about various things, with perhaps some business to come out of it, and as he left, Captain Nijaz unveiled a promotional poster, with a special offer of large goat juices for just 10 kuna.
This was too much for one friend on the next table, who started life here as a goat juice convert, but then switched his habits to Karlovačko in protest at his treatment by Slovenian immigration on a recent trip through the country. The friendly sales rep, together with the 10 kuna price, was all too much for him, however, and he forget his argument with the Slovenian authorities, and went to fetch some green goodness.
It was clear he was enjoying what he had been missing, and soon after, bottle one became bottle two.
Laško Pivo for ten kuna at The Office – just one more reason to enjoy the late morning sunshine on the square with this incredible late October weather.
