The Wine Shops of Hvar: Where to Find That Perfect Bottle

Total Croatia News

More people are commenting on the quality of Hvar wines this year, and asking where they can buy them…

“We had a LOVELY bottle of white the other night from the island. It was called Bog something,” said one of my favourite regular visitors to Hvar over a cold one at The Office.

“Bogdanuša. It translates as ‘a gift from God’ and its grapes are only produced on Hvar.”

“Bloody delicious it was. Where can we buy some?”

I am hearing this more and more this summer. Hvar wines seem to be that bit more accessible than before and tourists are become aware that there is some local quality to try. Thanks mostly to the efforts of the Hvar Wine Assocation who have done much to raise the visibility of the island’s wines in the last 12 months. So where can you buy them?

Hvar Town – Ivo Carić has a shop a Riva 17, just off the main waterfront. There is also a great selection of other island products. Mon – Sat: 09:00 – 23:00. Follow on Facebook

Stari Grad – Caric has opened a new shop this summer at Trg Mala Podloza just off the waterfront in the heart of the old town.

Stari Grad – PZ Svirče Cooperative, including their award-winning organic wines.

DOULNJO KOLA/ MARKA MARULIĆA 7, 20 m from Splitska Bank, 09:00 – 13:00, 18:00 – 21:00

Jelsa – on the waterfront just by the main square – 09:00 – 13:00, 18:00 – 21:00

Jelsa – Tomić wine-tasting and shop in the heart of Jelsa old town every evening from 19:30. Just walk through the square, past the church and you will see the tasting room 30m on the left of the street.

Two other great options in Jelsa, but by prior appointment, are the wines of Ivo Duboković (check out the wine seduction here) and Teo Huljić, who runs a restaurant of the same name 20m from Tomić in the old town of Jelsa.
