It is less than two months since British YouTubers Joe Sugg and Oli White spent a couple of nights on Hvar. Nobody of my generation had ever heard of them at the time in Croatia but plenty have heard of them since, particularly parents of teenage daughters.
And while the promotion of Hvar and Central Dalmatia was excellent – the shark tank episode in the Gariful underfloor aquarium has attracted more than 1.5 million views so far, would people actually visit Hvar because of the YouTubers directly?
Oh yes…
Catching up with a British friend before the 2Cellos concert after 10 years, I had assumed that the reason he had visited the island was due to the 2Cellos concert, but it seemed that this was just a bonus for the adults, for he was mostly here because of his teenage son.
On the Oli and Joe trail.
An avid YouTuber fan, my friend’s son had wanted to visit the Blue Cave, as his heroes had done, and so Hvar Tours took them. He had been fascinated by the shark tank, and so lunch at Gariful was a must, and his son excitedly told me that he had not only seen the shark tank, but also spoken to the waiter.
Hvar Tourism, it sometimes works in mysterious ways…
