Česma Fountain, Vrlika Sights

Daniela Rogulj

The Česma fountain is located in a 19th century picturesque park with the same name, where one of the many tributaries of the River Cetina rises. Stone steps lead to the spring, which can be reached from three directions, and the water flows from six stone drains on the stone wall.

As a central gathering place, Česma played an important role in the lives of local people, also providing inspiration for Milan Begović, who wrote the libretto to Ero the Joker, the most popular Croatian opera. A monument to Begović is also placed there. Česma features as the most original stage for summer performances of Ero the Joker.
