The 4th Carnival of the Cetina Region was held in Sinj on February 10, 2018
The streets of Sinj again hosted the annual carnival for the villages under Kamešnica, a manifestation protected as intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia.
The villages under Kamešnica are known for their long tradition of guarding the folk customs of the Cetina region, with the carnival festivities brightening the Cetina settlements year after year.
The carnival of ‘Dida’ adheres to strict rules of conduct based on local traditions. Participants dress in old clothes covered in stained multicoloured stripes, carrying sheep carcases up to 1.5 metres in height on their heads.
The characters share some common traits with other traditional masked groups from various parts of Croatia and Europe, driving away malevolent winter spirits with loud noise and jumping.
