Duck Breast and Purple Onion Jam. Why not?!

Premium wines from Kutjevo cellars can be a part of every story. A presentation of premium brands of Kutjevo has recently been organized by the G.E.T. Association. The wines were paired with food prepared by Sandra Nedeljko, a chef and the owner of Mamica Restaurant & Inn in Pušćine (Međimurje). The pairing session was led by Aleksandar Noršić, a renowned Croatian sommelier. The aim of the presentation was to once again introduce to journalists the premium wines from Kutjevo cellars, which they already know very well, but this time their attention was brought to the fact that the wines were produced at special wine-growing locations, with lots of love and in small batches.

“For Mamica Restaurant & Inn, this was their first public presentation in front of a larger number of journalists and proved to be a hit. We believe that many people are going to visit their restaurant soon. The great atmosphere was created by an excellent young moderator Šimun Miloš and extremely talented young artist Lana Škrgatić, who presented her skills on saxophone, keyboards and flute”, said Silvija Munda from G.E.T. Report.

The event took place in the newly-discovered Cukorek Melin venue at the foot of the Zagreb Mountain. As a welcome drink, Maximobrut was served, a sparkling wine which perfectly pairs with the food, but is also a great aperitif. The feast continued with mousse made of sea trout on crackers, flambéed shrimp in bacon (paired with Gotho Graševina), risotto with pork, mushrooms and pumpkin (Graševina Turković), duck breast, “mlinci”, buckwheat porridge and jam made of purple onions and plum (de Gotho Pinot Noir). The desserts were Međimurje Gibanica, pannacotta flavoured with basil and tomato (with Maximobianco). It goes without saying that the surprise of the night were ice wines – Graševina and Traminac.

“Mamica Inn is a family run inn and restaurant in Pušćine in Međimurje, which seeks to preserve old traditions and food and save them from oblivion, with a help of some modern technology. We use first-class ingredients, and our partners are primarily local family farms”, pointed out representatives of the inn which was opened in 2008 and has been included from its first year in the publication of the 100 best restaurants in Croatia chosen by Gastronaut Club.

Cukorek Melin is a venue which is elegant, but also linked with the nature in such a way as to encourage the most beautiful form of hedonism and love. It is located on the eastern slopes of Medvednica, near the edge of the Nature Park, at Gorščica Street (Bidrovec settlement). The property is crossed by the Bidrovec stream and consists of a wooden house with a mill and a wine cellar, gazebo, bowls playing area, pond and 2000 square metres of pure nature.

Premium marks of the Kutjevo cellars are De Gotho and Maximo, as well as Graševina Turković, which are produced in small and very limited series. These are exclusive wines, for those connoisseurs who expect a wine to give them all of its beautiful smell and taste, in short – wines to enjoy. Of course, it is important to point out that these wines have received multiple awards at national and foreign wine competitions.

These wines cannot be bought in shopping centres, but only in restaurants and specialty shops, as well as in the newly-launched wine shop chain “Svijet Vina”, which Kutjevo is opening at several locations at farmers’ markets in Zagreb.

“We have tried to achieve the combination of tradition and modern, fast lifestyle with a pleasant and warm atmosphere where visitors can always feel welcome. Therefore, we have selected markets as the primary locations for “Svijet Vina” shops, since they have strong connection with the tradition of tasting. During every visit to a farmers’ market, our senses are stimulated to enjoy the tastes, and since they are also meeting places, there is no better place to experience what we want to accomplish with this project. A wine shop will soon be opened at the Gajnice market as well”, said Darija Kovačević from Kutjevo.
