A Dutch tourist and long-term visitor to Croatia over the last 40 years posted this on Facebook today:

“ZAGREB AIRPORT TAXI, who earns the money??
What a surprise this morning when we left the center of the town to the airport. We had to pay only Kn 98 for an (official) taxi.
Guess what we had to pay when we took a taxi from the brand new Zagreb airport to the town a week ago?
Kn 248! Who earns money with this concession? This is not a friendly welcome for guests of Zagreb.”

So, how to get from the new airport terminal without breaking the bank, and why are taxis from the airport so much more expensive than to it?

The new terminal is finally open and with ZET’s new bus line, it’s easier (and cheaper) than ever to get from the airport to the city and vice-versa. The old terminal is now closed, so, to avoid confusion, the airport website has prepared a useful guide for the new terminal, which can be found here.

You’re wondering what your options are? Check them out below, ranging from the cheapest to the most expensive one

1) ZET bus: 4 – 10 kn
As of recently, the new bus service connects Zagreb and Velika Gorica via the new terminal. The 19-km bus service leaves from near Kvaternikov trg – Heinzelova ulica 16, Terminal 4 (Peron 4 in Croatian).

Travel time is 30-45 min.
It operates in 25-30 min intervals and you can find the schedule here

2) “Pleso prijevoz” bus / airport shuttle: 30 kn
“Pleso prijevoz” is the airport’s official partner and it takes passengers from the airport to the Main Bus Station in Zagreb. Travel time is 35-40 min. The entrance to the waiting room for the airport shuttle is located on the terminal’s right side, roughly somewhere around here:

Bus departure times are adapted to the flight schedule, which is convenient and they leave every 30 min on the half hour and the hour. See the timetable here

3) Uber: 90 kn (from the Main Railway Station)
Since its arrival in Zagreb, Uber has been very popular with passengers. You can register online here and check the price estimate from your exact location. You ca of course order an Uber from the airport, although the taxi drivers there don’t like that too much for some reason.

4) Taxi: 110-120 kn (from the Main Railway Station)
The 16.5 km ride would cost anywhere between 100-115 kn from the city, but it can cost up to 250 kn from the airport. The reason for this is the fact that Velika Gorica, where the airport is located, is actually an administratively separate town, so the only taxi drivers allowed to operate and pick up passengers there are the ones with a Velika Gorica-issued permit, whose prices are higher than the taxi companies’ from Zagreb.
