100,000 ”New” Cars Registered in Croatia in 2018

In the first eight months of 2018, the average age of 50,193 passenger cars and 5,173 light commercial vehicles was 7.2 years.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 28th of September, 2018, In the first eight months, 50,453 second-hand cars were introduced into the Republic of Croatia, while, according to Promotion plus data, 47,167 new cars were registered.

Thus, in the two quarters of this year, cumulatively with the entry used and the sale of new cars, we have have reached a figure of almost 100,000 “new” personal car registrations in Croatia. Last year, 55,193 used passenger cars and 50,769 new cars were registered throughout the year, according to a report from Vecernji list.

These figures mean that there are still good growth trends, and this is a sector which will likely continue to grow even more due to the rise in the number of brand new cars since September the 1st, when new cars became subject to the homologation obligation under the new WLTP cycle came into force.

Consumption and CO2 emissions are still somewhat higher, and therefore excises have also increased. The Croatian Customs Administration is still reportedly “monitoring the situation” and is preparing for a specific action that should hopefully result in the neutralisation of the higher CO2 emission rates when calculating excise duties within the country, which is something the European Commission seeks.

Until that actually occurs, this sector looks to continue to flourish without any obstacle. In the first eight months of this year, the average age of 50,193 passenger cars and 5,173 light commercial vehicles was 7.2 years.

The most sought-after models appear to be the VW Golf with 5,496 registrations, the Renault Megane (2,255), following are the VW Passat (2,140), the BMW 3 Series, the Ford Focus, the Opel Astra, the Renault Clio, the Audi A4 and A3, and the BMW Series 1.
