Today marks the opening of the 11th Vukovar Film Festival, an event that brings the best of cinematography to the river Danube!
The organisers, Discovery Films, began their dream in 2006, and today, the festival is truly a remarkable event. A spotlight on the vast array of alternative film producers and themes, that don't tend to reach the mainstream media.
This years event is launched with the screening of the Hungarian production „On Body and Soul (Testről és lélekről)“ directed by Ildikó Enyedi. An award winner at the 67th Berlin Film Festival, having been presented with the Golden Bear, as well as nominated as Best Film by the International Association of Film Critics (FIPRESCI).
Vukovar is proud to welcome the film’s director Ildikó Enyedi, who will join a long list of acclaimed visitors. Vukovar Film Festival presents a whole series of international films, ranging from Animation for the children, to drama for the adults. During this years event visitors are able to watch different films throughout the region. Screenings will take place in Borovo, Beli Manistir, Osijek, Valpovo and Vukovar.
In Vukovar you will be able to enjoy special screenings on Island Ada, aboard Bajadera, at Dvoratz Eltz or at the Cinestar complex. A full schedule of screenings can be obtained from the VFF site. Organisers also provide an educational workshop, that allows the younger generations to get a feel for the big screen and the work involved. This year is certainly bigger and better than previous festivals, and sets a trend for the continued importance of film in our lives.
Vukovar town centre will be alive with a celebration of cuisine, entertainment and music throughout the event, as well as a myriad of international visitors.
