Every year in late August or early September, the Karlovac Beer Days festival brings together between 100,000 and 200,000 visitors.
With a traditional parade on the streets of Karlovac, which included 700 performers, athletes and citizens, the 32nd Karlovac Beer Days started on Friday evening. The festival will include a dozen concerts and numerous other cultural and entertainment programmes, reports Agrobiz.hr on September 3, 2018.
The parade included Karlovac Mayor Damir Mandić and Speaker of Town Council Marijana Tomičić.
The official opening, accompanied with the fireworks, took place at the central stage of the Korana Sports and Recreation Centre, surrounded by several hundred tents and booths with food, drinks and local products. The festival is organised by the Fest company, whose five-year concession ends this year.
Mayor Mandić announced on last week’s session of the Town Council that there will be changes in the following years, and what they will precisely be will be decided by a special committee which will include representatives of the town authorities, the Karlovac Tourist Board and the local brewery, which is a long-time sponsor of the event.
Speaking about his vision of the new concept, Mandić said that the Karlovac brewery was established in 1854, which prompts the organisers to more closely follow the tradition and to expand the reach of the festival. “This is an event which deserves to have a wider selection of programmes. In the next two months, we will make a decision on what those programmes are going to be. My wish is to spread the events to more locations in the town, including the old town centre, and to make the event more of a beer festival,” said Mandić.
He announced that “the ideas which we are working on” would be discussed at a special session of the Town Council in October.
Each year, the 10-day event attracts between 100,000 and 200,000 visitors in late August or early September.
