Lauren Simmonds

As many as seven films at the 14th Zagreb Film Festival have been nominated for the European Film Award.

The European Film Awards have been presented annually since 1988 by the European Film Academy to recognise excellence in European cinematic achievements and have been hosted in around 31 cities across Europe, from Glasgow (Scotland) to Wroclaw (Poland). The awards are presented in over ten categories of which the most important is the Film of the year.

Among the various competition entries, nominees include ”The Goodbye” by Clara Roquet (short film) and ”Dogs” by Bogdan Mirica (feature), as well as ”The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki” which will be shown at the official opening of the festival.

EFA (European Film Awards) have increased in popularity and have become particularly important in recent years, as several winning films have also often been awarded at the Oscars in the best foreign language film category, one of such was ”Love” by the Austrian film director Michael Haneke.

The Zagreb Film Festival begins on the 12th of November and will run until the 20th of November with a rich programme of films being shown at the Europa and Tuskanac cinemas as well as at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
