A lighting project on Čikat bay became the winner of another prestigious international award: the Darc Awards. The project, created by Pula lighting designer Dean Skira and set at Hotel Bellevue in Lošinj, won 3rd place in London at the Darc Awards in the category of “Best Landscape Lighting Scheme – High Budget category”.

The prestigious Darc Awards celebrate the best in lighting design, with Mondo Arc and Darc Magazine having the reputation as being the most widely read and respected lighting design publications in the world.

Despite strong competition, among the world’s best projects and light installations in landscaping design was the award-winning “Medusa” lighting project at the Hotel Bellevue in Lošinj at Čikat Bay – taking home a proud third prize.

“Medusa, the marine lighting project within Čikat Bay, required the lighting designers to take an artistic approach to the general lighting – highlighting an underwater network of luminous sculptures. This installation is rectilinearly connected to the main entrance of the hotel and dominates over the coastal terrace as a visual highlight for guests and an act of the unexpected sight, following the central principal plateau. The idea was to create a portal of light with ten-metre high, specially designed poles, inspired by pen shells. These poles are connected with the main jellyfish hub with thin LED lines. Positioning and connecting was a very challenging and technically demanding part of the project as the line is continuously integrated into the poles, floor and steps, creating visual connection between luminous underwater streams, physically ending in the jellyfish hub,” states the Mondo Arc website.

With previously won awards in the categories of design, this is the third in a series of recognition at the international level for the Jadranka Group (the hotel brand at Bellevue), made in collaboration with the renowned Croatian lighting designer Dean Skira. Čikat bay is the first bay with premium offers and services, and aside from its natural beauty, is recognizable by this illuminated sea of jellyfish and attractive promenade.

Last year, Lošinj’s famous promenade in front of Hotel Bellevue was also decorated by a large investment from the Jadranka Group. Contributions below this trend will be the realization of planned investments in the next 3 to 4 years, which include the expansion of projects like the Mali Lošinj Airport, and the construction of the Eco Golf Resort Matalda to provide added value and content for a desired extension of the tourist season.
