Making your Christmas shopping list? Here’s an idea to have in mind
December sneaked up on us, and with it one of the staple features of the holiday season: getting Christmas presents for your loved ones. While the sole act of fighting your way through crowded malls and dragging jam-packed bags around can be a frustrating ordeal, isn’t it a great feeling to watch a friend, a partner or your kid unwrap something you picked out with them in mind and see their face light up with joy?
Apart from (or instead of) your run-of-the-mill Christmas shopping tour of the biggest commercial centres in town, how about considering some hand-made gifts as an option? The only thing that can make a present even better is knowing it was crafted with love and care, and even if you’re not a do-it-yourself type, you can easily track down some local artists and manufacturers online and pick out some endearing items to put under your Christmas tree.
Here’s a suggestion in case you’re planning a trip to Rijeka this month: local creative minds joined their forces to present their work at a craft fair named artBazaar that will take place next weekend, from December 15 to 17 in HKD Sušak in the city centre.
Glass Land
No less than 35 exhibitors will present their creations, ranging from jewellery, clothes and cosmetics to dishware and homemade delicacies – every single item hand-made and unique. Not only will your presents be the most original and appealing, you’ll also be giving back to the community by supporting local artists and small manufacturers.
Čabeceda
This year’s artBazaar will also have a pop-up edition in Opatija, making a special appearance as part of their Advent programme on December 23. If you miss the fair in Rijeka, consider Opatija as your back-up plan!
