Babin Kuk Cleanup: Dubrovnik Divers Get to Work

Lauren Simmonds

One in a long line of many pre-season cleanup operations for the seabed of the wider Dubrovnik area.

After several eco-friendly sea cleanups in the Dubrovnik area, and indeed all along the Croatian coast, Babin Kuk was the most recent to receive a professional cleanup by local divers.

Beginning at 10:00 on the 11th of June, 2017, the Dubrovnik Diving Club went to work removing waste from below the surface, pulling out all manner of items, from metal to plastic, a material known to pose particular danger to the environment, particularly to sea animals.

The special action was supported by the Tourist Board of the City of Dubrovnik and the City of Dubrovnik. Such actions usually take place just before the summer season gets underway and the tourists begin to flock to the city and into the Adriatic. The aim is to keep the seabed clean, the sea unpolluted and to raise the general awareness of the local population when it comes to the importance of protecting the environment and nature.
