Tenth in a row, the traditional Barkanijada only has a touristic meaning and content, including the valorisation of the touristic positioning of the Gacka river valley and Lika-Senj county on the tourism map of the continental area of Croatia
The 10th annual Memorial Barkanijada cycling event was also made special by the 517th millennial photograph created by Šime Strikoman, taking place last Saturday, Direktno.hr reported on July 2, 2016.
“The tenth Memorial Barkanijada in Otočac is a project by our cycling club in Otočac with whom we are developing cycling as a sport, as a way of life and as a tourism product of our destination. Our club has many young members, over a 100, we’re making cycling and the destination more popular, offering a mix of natural beauty and relaxation for all generations. We are proud to have permanent cycling participants from the beginning in 2007,” said the cycling club Barkan secretary Irena Banić.
The Barkan route is marked in the length of 210 kilometres, while the cycling event was held in the first section, along the Gacka river, adapted to all cyclists, from families with kids to those looking for a challenge, making this event specific.
It should be said the Barkanijada started in 2007, when the club was founded and given the name of their late fellow citizen, artist Željko Barković Barkan who was a great fan of fishing but also cycling.
