Spectacular “battles” will take place on 18 and 19 June.

At the foot of the romantic Old Town walls in the city of Sisak, in an area near the Kupa river, duels, night and day sieges involving catapults and fireballs, medieval military camps, traditional culinary specialties and music, will all soon become a part of an irresistible historical spectacle, reports net.hr on June 11, 2016.

“The Battles for Sisak A.D. 1593“, to be held on June 18 and 19, refer to the battle and the events of 1593 when, after years of sieges, the Christian army won a great victory and stopped the Ottoman advancements to the west. The historical battle took place on 22 June 1593, near the Sisak Old Town. After three sieges, the Ottoman Army commander Hasan Pasha Predojević was defeated by the Christian army led by Ban Toma Erdödy Bakač.

This entertaining, yet historical and educational event represents an exceptional display of history and of knightly combat and warfare. The two-day event also shows the way of life in the early modern age. Meanwhile, in an attempt to make the battles seem as realistic as possible, the organizers made sure that the entire equipment necessary for a true medieval battle includes swords, armour, shields, crossbows, tunics, dresses and other items that are all hand-made.
