A special treat for this week’s installment of our art series!

On June 15, 2017, the Rector’s Palace in Zadar opened an exhibition that is sure to attract an immense number of art lovers this summer – Marc Chagall!

Titled Beyond Colour (S onu stranu boje), the exhibition comprises a hundred works by one of the greatest masters of the 20th century. Woodcuts, copper-plate engravings and litographs that are on display were created during the long span from the early 20s to the mid-80s, and are mostly known as commissions by the publishing house Tériade.

As stated in the foreword, the curious cultural eye now has the chance to dive into the artist’s constant dialogue with the eternal; works on display feature the majority of his regular motives such as love, the omnipresence of the Divine, the Russian-Jewish cultural legacy, and his birth town of Vitebsk. Among the series presented at the exhibition, you’ll find the illustrations of the Bible, Gogol’s Dead Souls, Homer’s Odissey, a selection of windows of Jerusalem, images of Paris, and many other Chagall’s etching masterpieces.

Such a rare opportunity to see the works of this artistic beacon of modernism is not to be missed. You can see the exhibition every day from 10 AM to 10 PM.

Every evening from June 19 to June 23, his video works will be screened at the gallery, followed by a meeting and conversation with the artist. Škofić combines photography, film, video and multimedia installations to draw attention to issues of social control and manipulation, often spiced up with a substantial dose of humour.
