Advent in Split has begun.

On its first day, Christmas Fair on the Split waterfront and Prokurative was visited by many citizens of Split and their guests. The fair was opened by Split Mayor Ivo Baldasar, while Cambi singing group performed a concert on Prokurative. The Mayor then toured the waterfront and talked with heads of the Split and Dalmatian Tourist Boards Alijana Vukšić and Joško Stella. He also chatted with many of the people gathered, reports Dalmatinki Portal on December 2, 2015.

Cambi filled Prokurative with their very first song, while the waterfront also teemed with life. “As far as funds are concerned, we have invested less money in the Christmas Fair than Zagreb. We have invested about 500,000 kuna, but we will make up for it with our spirit and imagination. There are a lot of people here which makes me particularly pleased”, the Mayor said. This year, about 20 stands at the Fair are owned by the city authorities, and Baldasar added that his wish is that next year all 50 stands should be city-owned.

Tourist Board director Alijana Vukšić said that citizens of Split and their guests will have 40 days of fun and pleasure, during which everyone will be able to find something for themselves. “We have 50 stands and very nice entertainment program, and we have insisted that the food which is offered must be traditional for this region”, Vukšić said. She stressed the charity nature of the Christmas Fair, as well as the fact that Croatian Railways offer cheaper fares for guests coming to Split during the Advent.

Director of DMC Spalatum Marina Rančić noted that the city-owned company is responsible for the technical part of the Christmas Fair and New Year celebrations.
