It will be another very busy summer of top festivals and concerts in Croatia. TCN’s Dave Gasson, based in Istria, will be doing his best to cover as many as possible. Here is Dave’s 2017 concert and festival plans for the summer, on April 26, 2017, all of which will be covered by Dave for TCN. 

Deep Purple 16.05.17. Arena Zagreb

Who better than the British rock band Deep Purple to kick start the summer? This pioneering iconic rock band, formed in 1968, will be performing at the Zagreb arena on 16.05.17. Crowned the world’s loudest band by the Guinness Book of Records in 1972 after a concert at London’s Rainbow Theatre, it promises to be an outstanding concert. Ian Gillan will be lead vocals accompanied by the band’s original drummer, Ian Paice, Roger Glover, bass, Steve Morse, guitar and Don Airey on keyboards.
Inducted into the 2016 Rock hall of fame this legendary band will be performing many of their hits such as Highway Star, Black Night, Hush, and of course, one of the worlds’ greatest rock anthems Smoke on the Water as well as tracks from their recently released album “inFinite”. Tony Hadley 20.05.17.Rovinj Beach Polo Cup

Istria is next and, performing for the first time in Rovinj, is Tony Hadley, the former lead singer of the 1980s new wave band Spandau Ballet. The group were one of the most successful during the new romantic music era and their hits include True, their first number 1 and what was to becomes the band’s anthem, Gold, both from their third album, True, Only When You Leave from their fourth album, Parade and Through the Barricades, which was the band’s tenth and final top ten single. This pioneering band disbanded in 1989. In recent years, as well as performing in the reformed Spandau Ballet and continuing his solo career, starring in films, various TV shows and radio presenting, Tony Hadley also has his own beer, called Hadleys Blonde and is sold in over 400 pubs in and around the London area.

2Cellos 02.07.17. Pula Amphitheatre

Croatia’s very own and finest, 2Cellos ,Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser, are performing in the city where they first found YouTube success with their cover version of Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal. Since then, they have released 4 albums, covered a variety of rock anthems, accompanied Elton John on tour, played at the Queen’s Jubilee concert, and appeared on numerous TV shows. If you haven’t seen or heard them perform, a good place to start is by joining 82 million YouTube viewers and watching their rendition of AC/DC’s Thunderstruck. As well as good old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll covers and classical greats, their latest album, Score, showcases their vast array of sheer talent with their version of film music. The album includes music from Game of Thrones, Schindler’s List, Chariots of Fire, Gladiator and many more. They love playing in their home town and their concert at Pula Amphitheatre on July 2nd promises an electric atmosphere.

Sting.26.07.17. Pula amphitheatre

On July 26th the English rock legend Sting returns to Pula arena for the third time as part of his 57th and 9th World tour. His latest album, 57th and 9th sees Sting and his distinct range of vocal tones once again playing in a rock / pop style that was so characteristic of the early days of The Police.

As well as performing many of his solo hits such as Englishman in New York, My Heart and One Fine Day he will no doubt rock the crowd with some of the many hits from his days in The Police.
With Dominic and Rufus Miller on guitar, and the explosive drummer Josh Freese, it promises to be a memorable event

Seasplash 20 – 23.07.17 Pula Fort Punta Christo

The 15th Seasplash festival offers a relaxing and chilled out start to the festival scene in and around Pula. The vast array of the best national and international artists in reggae, dub, drum and bass, dancehall ,ska, and electronic music perform over several stages. There are sport and arts programmes, workshops, and stalls. Dimensions Festival 30.08.17 – 03.09.17 Pula. Fort Punta Christo and Pula Amphitheatre

Another outstanding line up for the Dimensions festival this year with the legendary Grace Jones performing at the opening concert in the arena along with Moderat, Moses Boyd and Yussef Kamaal. After the opening night the underground electronic music festival moves to the picturesque fort Punta Christo in Stinjan.

Spread over several stages and offering a phenomenal sound and light system you will be treated to some of the finest house, techno, disco , dubstep and other electrnic sounds by over 100 performers and dj`s. There are also beach and boat parties with food, camping stalls all on-site.

Outlook Festival 06.09.17 – 11.09.17 Pula. Fort Punta Christo and Pula Amphitheatre

The largest sound system culture festival in Europe returns to Pula for the tenth year. The opening nights concert is again in Pula amphitheatre and stars Dizzee Rascal ,Dj Shadow and The Outlook Orchestra.

The 4 day festival then moves to fort Punta Christo in Stinjan where over 250 Dj`s and bands from around the world including Goldie, Gentleman`s Dub Club,Macka B & The Roots Ragga Band perform throughout the day and night. There are daily Beach and boat parties, cocktails bars, food and camping all on site.

Back to Zagreb for some amazing treats to end the year

The legendary Canadian musician Bryan Adams plays at the Zagreb arena as part of his Get Up Tours on the 9th of November. He has had a succession of hits around the world spanning 3 decades.

Beth Hart 10.11.17. Boogaloo Club, Zagreb

As part of the Fire on the Floor tour, this American singer ,songwriter and musician is finally performing her first concert in Croatia and Zagreb`s Boogaloo night club, is the lucky recipient of this hugely talented lady of rock / blues / soul and jazz.
With several studio albums and two live albums, get ready for this lady to rock your world. Her powerful diverse vocal range, her emotive lyrics as well as her amazing keyboard skills all combined with her sheer passion for live performing and rock n roll ensures that the night will be a roller coaster ride of emotions. She will be accompanied by her regular band of Jon Nichols on guitar, Bob Marinelli on bass and Bill Ransom on drums

Since winning best female vocalist in the 1993 American star search, the Grammy nominated Beth has recorded and toured with Jeff Beck and Joe Bonamasa and also collaborated with many other rock and blues stars including Slash and Buddy Guy. In 2003, she became the first and only musician to feature as backing vocalist for a Deep Purple’s song “Haunted”.

The Guardian praised her “daring, brooding and angry” performances and The Blues Magazine once dubbed Beth Hart “the ultimate female rock star.
