A bright young acting talent from Croatia – Tihana Lazović.
Croatian actress Tihana Lazović has been listed among the ten best young European actors and actresses, as part of the European Shooting Stars 2016, a program which presents young European actors during the Berlinale each year. “Playing three characters in three different stories about the conflict in the Balkans, Tihana with her raw and powerful presence conveys all the range of emotions of love and hate. We have recognized an instinctive actress with multiple talents whose acting embodies the core values of the film – a love of life and humanity”, explained the jury its decision to include Tihana Lazović in the prestigious program, reports Index.hr on December 15, 2015.
Largely thanks to her performance in The High Sun (Zvizdan) by Dalibor Matanić, Tihana Lazović has become one of 10 participants of this year’s European Shooting Stars, a program focused on the promotion of young European acting talents. The program will take place during the first weekend of the 66th International Film Festival in Berlin, where the participants will have the opportunity to meet some of Europe’s most important casting agents, casting directors and other key names of European film industry.
Previous experience shows that eight out of ten participants in the Shooting Stars program were given the opportunity to audition which led to their involvement in international co-productions. The best-known examples include German actor Daniel Bruhl and Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, which was nominated for a Golden Globe in two categories this year.
Tihana Lazović is the third Croatian actress who will participate in this project (Marija Škaričić participated in 2011, and Zrinka Cvitešić in 2010), and among this year’s candidates there are also two more young actors from Croatian co-productions: Atli Oskar Fjalarsson from Sparrows by Runar Runarsson and Daphne Patakia from Interruption by Yorgos Zois.
European Shooting Stars is a project organized by European Film Promotion, a European organization of national film agencies created with the aim of networking on joint projects and promoting European film talents in the world. EFP has for years organized numerous programs at prestigious international film festivals (Cannes, Karlovy Vary, Busan, Toronto), and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre has been a member since 2008.
