ZAGREB, March 8, 2018 – Croatian Ambassador to Serbia Gordan Bakota on Thursday visited Radio Television Vojvodina (RTV) and its Croatian language editorial board, offering them cooperation and help in procuring the equipment they need.
Information in a minority language is an essential part of Serbian-Croatian relations and was discussed by two countries’ presidents recently, Bakota said, RTV reported, adding that the continuation of Belgrade-Zagreb talks was a big step forward. Vojvodina is a province within Serbia.
“For Croatia, the minority issue is something that can be a firm and strong link in the relations between the two countries. As Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said, the status of the Croatian minority is a government priority in the relations with Serbia,” Bakota said, adding that he believed this was as important for Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić with regard to the Serb minority in Croatia.
Bakota was the first Croatian ambassador who visited the RTV Croatian language editorial board.
“We told the ambassador about the problems we encounter in everyday work, from an inadequate office space, the problems of the second channel, which doesn’t have special production capacities, to the lack of technical tools,” editor Jelena Tumbas said, adding that Bakota had pledged to help in procuring the necessary technical tools and that they agreed to intensify cooperation in terms of covering embassy activities.
