Croatian Opera Singer Moves Ahead in British ‘X-Factor’

Daniela Rogulj

The 32 year old Trogir born Antonia Mirat first stood on the stage of the British ‘X Factor’ last week, performing  “Queen of the Night” from Mozart’s The Magic Flute in front of Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne.

We first met Antonia Mirat last week, and her pipes surely blew most of us away. Mirat is originally from Trogir, although she currently lives in Vienna as a full-time opera singer. She has studied at the Juilliard Royal Academy of Music in London, and has also studied beside Montserrat Caballé, well known Spanish operatic soprano. We even hear she tried her hand as a professor in Dubai.

In an effort to further her opera singing career, Mirat first sang her own rendition of “Queen of the Night” from Mozart’s The Magic Flute on the British ‘X-Factor’ last week. Although judges Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger gave her praise, the hard to please Simon Cowell would have rather passed.

Three “yes” votes were granted to Mirat to progress her into the next round of X-Factor Bootcamp where she performed “Respect” by Aretha Franklin for the judges.

A unanimous decision from the jury, Mirat surely peaked, and has finished among the top 20 candidates for ‘X-Factor’ out of the 5,000 who applied to participate on the popular show.
