More excellent projects and thoughtful presentations from the dedicated Niksa Matic and the House of Marin Drzic in Dubrovnik.
In honour of the 450th anniversary of Marin Drzic’s premature passing, the House of Marin Drzic in the heart of Dubrovnik’s Old City has been putting on presentation after presentation, each one somehow more meaningful and special than the last. What awaits onlookers on Tuesday the 25th of April 2017 will arguably be the most significant presentation in the program yet…
In order to keep both Marin Drzic and his timeless works relevant to the city and to its residents in the modern day, especially to the young, the House of Marin Drzic will present ”Drzic in the eyes of highschool students”. Students in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades from Gimnazija Dubrovnik will, with the help of their professors, take part in various dramatic scenarios and plots which include scenes and monologues from some of Drzic’s most celebrated works, such as ”Tirena” which was originally published in the year 1549 and perhaps most famously ”Dundo Maroje”, an internationally loved comedy first published in 1551.
Alongside dramatics, an art workshop will allow students to use acrylic on canvas to bring to life the beloved characters in Drzic’s works who left the deepest impression on them.
Marin Drzic and his many brilliant pieces of literature, both comedic and otherwise, often bring out realistic details from daily life in Dubrovnik which can still be very much recognised even to this day, owing to this, students have investigated which specific areas of the city are mentioned in his dramas, opening a a living connection between the modern day and the past and discovering more about how day to day life presented itself for residents of the city in Drzic’s time – from merchants to artisans and from servants to nobles.
Prepared by Professor Ana Jozovic, ”Drzic in the eyes of highschool students” is sure to be one of the most touching presentations to honour the unusual life of the most celebrated Dubrovnik playwright yet.
The House of Marin Drzic (Dom Marina Drzica) can be found at Siroka Ulica 7, Dubrovnik 20000.
