The decision was made at an extraordinary session of the government.
On Monday morning, the government held a special session where a decision was made to proclaim 31 July 2018 as the National Day of Condolence due to the death of famous Croatian singer Oliver Dragojević. The news was announced by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on his Twitter profile, adding that all ministers supported his proposal, reports Index.hr on July 30, 2018.
“Today, I have convened a telephone session of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and proposed that we proclaim 31 July 2018 as the Day of National Condolence due to the death of Oliver Dragojević, which was supported by all members of the Government,” wrote Plenković.
“The day of national condolence shall be marked by hoisting the flag of the Republic of Croatia at half-staff on all buildings which house state institution and bodies of local and regional self-government units, as well as the buildings which house the headquarters and offices of businesses.
A national day of condolence, unlike a national day of mourning, does not include the cancellation of planned events,” explained the government.
