ZAGREB, September 15, 2018 – Approximately 80 Croatian towns and municipalities and some 150 schools are taking part in this year’s day-long drive called “Green Cleanup”, during which volunteers will clear illegally disposed-of waste in Croatia.
The World Cleanup Day is a global social action program aimed at combating the global solid waste problem. This year World Cleanup Day is observed on September 15.
Volunteers from local NGOs are removing waste discarded by residents.
Croatian Environmental Protection Minister Tomislav Ćorić joined the volunteers in Zagreb and helped clean the Medvednica Nature Park, outside Zagreb.
The day-long drive is being organised for the sixth year in a row as part of the World Cleanup campaign and the global movement “Let’s Do It!” Its aim is to raise awareness of the importance of responsible waste management for the purpose of environmental protection.
The idea of World Cleanup Day was launched by Estonia.
