November 30, 2018 – Because winter is the best excuse to be cooped up in the comfort of a theatre like HNK Split.
While the winter season charms us with Christmas cheer, sumptuous cuisine, and hot chocolate, it also brings out some of the best in art. The Nutcracker may be one of the best-known symbols of the holiday season, and Christmas songs can be heard from choirs to passersby all December long.
Because the perfect escape from the winter chill is within the comfort of a historic theatre (we think), why not participate in the winter offer of the Croatian National Theatre in Split?
The Nutcracker, for example, has broken attendance records in Croatia year after year. The choreography of Waczlawa Orlykowsky is conveyed by choreographer Božica Lisak, while the entire ballet ensemble, along with youngest ballet dancers, is included in this gorgeous production of more than 130 dancers.
Or how about Parallel Worlds, a drama by Croatia’s most famous and influential playwright Miro Gavran, while delves into the lives of people going through their mid-life crises and the intimate turbulence the experience brings?
The Beauty Queen of Leenane, a 1996 comedy by Irish playwright Martin McDonagh, tells us about storytelling, and specifically the importance of listening to stories, while Giuseppe Verdi’s Troubador shows heroism and the indescribable desire for vengeance through a four-act opera.
Tomislav Zajec, one of the leading Croatian contemporary dramatists, brings Mala Moskva to Split, a thrilling and virtuously printed study of family relationships. It is an original, contemporary drama, ruthless in the description of the spirit of the time, but simultaneously warm and full of love for the dysfunctional faces.
Whatever you choose, there is something for everyone at HNK Split this December.
