ZAGREB, January 27, 2018 – India’s national day, observed on January 26, was marked in the northern Croatian town of Varaždin at an event organised by the Indian Embassy and hosted by Ambassador Sandeep Kumar.
Kumar said Varaždin was a centre of cultural and academic exchange and Varaždin County a place which had embraced a big Indian investment. That’s why we are very pleased to have brought our national day to such an important county, he added.
Varaždin County prefect Radimir Čačić’s advisor Natalija Martinčević commended the good relations between Croatia and India. “Our states established diplomatic relations 26 years ago. Political relations are extremely good, but economic relations must be better,” she said, recalling that 11 years ago an Indian company bought the local Lukaps company, “investing a lot in it and hiring many people.”
She said Croatia wanted better relations in the education exchange with India. “Aside from having one of the biggest economic growths in the world, India has a complex but very modern education system,” she said, adding that Kumar, Cačić and she had already talked about this.
The Indian national day ceremony at Varaždin’s Croatian National Theatre was attended by 20 ambassadors accredited to Croatia and numerous MPS, the county said in a press release on Saturday.
