Spanish superstar tenor Jose Carreras, one of the iconic Three Tenors, returns to the Amphitheatre in Pula this summer organisers announced yesterday, May 9, 2016. Ten years after his last performance at one of the most prestigious venues of the country Carreras returns for a third time for a charity concert which is also part of his Final World Tour – A Life in Music. The singer is set to perform in the largest town of the Istrian peninsula on July 23. The concert is set to begin at 9pm. Tickets aren’t on sale yet, but as soon as they are, we will update this post.
At the open air concert in Pula, the 70-years-old music legend will be accompanied by Croatian soprano singer Martina Zadro, cellist Ana Rucner and the Symphonic Orchestra of the Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka. All proceeds of the concert will go to the Children Hospitals of Pula and Rijeka.
“A Life in Music will take fans on a unique musical journey, as José sings the songs that have influenced and defined his life, from the tunes he loved as a boy to the arias and songs he performed as one of the famous Three Tenors, alongside Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti.” The performance in Pula will include opera, operetta, musical numbers, music from the Mediterranean and songs from the Belle Époque.
Each summer the Amphitheatre in Pula hosts some of the biggest international stars in music. In previous years the likes of Sting, Elton John, Joe Cocker, Leonard Cohen and David Gilmour have performed inside the over 2,000 year old stone structure, which represents one of the most preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world. Massive Attack (August 24), Robert Plant (July 30) and Status Quo (July 29) concerts are confirmed for this year and rumour has it that Kraftwerk and Mumford & Sons could be added to the list for the summer of 2016 too.
