A month of Macedonian culture begins in Split.

On Friday, the Association of Macedonians in Split marked the beginning of the cultural festival Macedonian Cultural Autumn which will last for a full month, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on November 14, 2015. In addition to performances by the choir of Macedonia Cultural Society and children’s “Klinci-mandalinci” group, an exhibition of paintings by Dražen Pejković, Tonći Blagaić Buco, members of Šolta Art group and Jakov Čizmić has been opened as well. One of the artists included in the exhibition is young artist Bojana Bocevska originally from Skopje. The exhibition was opened by Marko Bekavac, the new head of the County Department for National Minorities.

“This whole event will be filled with many programs which we want to use to promote Macedonian culture, traditions and customs. On 20 November, our members will cook Macedonian specialties for homeless people in a shelter, at the end of the month we will travel to Samobor for the Community Day, we will organize literature and musical evenings in Split, as well as the screenings of two documentary films, ‘Contribution of Macedonians during the Homeland War’, and ‘Earthquake in Skopje in 1963’. Our premises at Mažuranićevo Šetalište 8/A are always open, so I invite everybody to visit us and see the exhibition”, Angel Mitrevski, president of Macedonia Cultural Society, said. The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday from 5 to 7 pm, and on Saturdays from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm.

The opening ceremony of the Macedonian Cultural Autumn festival was attended by many visitors. Mitrevski said that in Split there are exactly 222 Macedonians, but the number of members of the society is almost 300. “That is a proof of our openness towards everyone and our integration in society. I always say that you have been integrated once the majority people accept you as their own, and when you can show and cherish your traditions and customs. In Split, we are indeed able to do that”, Mitrevski concluded.
