Medals for Croatian Students at Mathematical Olympiad

ZAGREB, September 2, 2018 – Noel Lakić of Zadar’s “Franjo Petrić” secondary school has won a gold medal as the best individual competitor at the 12th Middle European Mathematical Olympiad, held in Bielsko-Biala, Poland, while the Croatian team won a silver medal, the team’s heads said on Saturday.

The students were competing individually and as teams in solving problems in algebra, combinatorics, geometry and number theory.

Competing in the Olympiad, held from August 27 to September 2, were 66 high school students from Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Ukraine.

The other members of the Croatian team, too, won medals in individual competition – Krunoslav Ivanović of Zagreb won a silver medal, while Luka Bulić Bračulj of Split and Krešimir Nežmah, Andrija Tomorad and Ivan Vojvodić of Zagreb won bronze medals.

The team was headed by Ivan Krijan and Ivan Kokan.

The Ukrainian team was the winner in the team competition, and the Hungarian team was third.
