Mediterranean Coast Day: Zrinka Cvitešić Declared Honorary Ambassador of the Coast in 2018

Mediterranean Coast Day is celebrated on September 25th. 

September 25, 2018 – At the central celebration of Mediterranean Coast Day and the 40th birthday of the Center for Coastal Management (PAP/RAC) held on Tuesday in the Gallery of Fine Arts in Split, actress Zrinka Cvitešić was proclaimed Ambassador of the Mediterranean Coast. The plaque of the honorary ambassador, in the presence of numerous participants of the international meeting on the new development challenges in the Mediterranean, was awarded by Željka Škaričić, head of the PAP/RAC office in Split, which marks their 40th anniversary at this year’s event. Mrs. Škaričić emphasized that Cvitešić was not only an extraordinary and award-winning actress, but also a proud owner of an olive grove on Brač, which in 2016 and 2017 won a bronze and silver medal for olive oil of exquisite quality.

“When I first came to Brač, the locals asked me if I knew the difference between vineyards and olive groves. When I replied that I did not know, they explained to me how a vineyard is like a woman: it requires a lot of attention, and if you do not try – it’ll go away. The olive grove is like a mother: you do not have to try much or tend to it often, but it is still waiting for you. This is how we should behave towards the Mediterranean as well: less interfering with your desires and appetites, and not taking what is not ours,” Zrinka Cvitešić said.

The famous young actress with a successful career abroad recalled in 2010 when she won the Best Actress in Mediterranean Countries at the Film Festival in Egypt. She also noted that she was fortunate enough to visit a number of countries in the Mediterranean and she is extremely honored to be an ambassador of so many beauties of distinctiveness and diversity.

“Unfortunately, along with all the wars that are taking place, and that are terrible and stupid, there is one more parallel: a war against man against nature,” Cvitešić said, pointing out that it is very important to recall the meaning of the word “measure”.

Just like all the previous awards, including one of the most significant British prizes – the Olivier Prize – Zrinka Cvitešić will no doubt be proud to wear her latest title – Honorary Ambassador of the Mediterranean Coast.
