Doing chores at 4 am? Zagreb stands ready to assist you.

Reporters from Večernji List recently wanted to find out what kind of service Croatia’s capital city offers 24/7, and what is it like to work a night shift in Zagreb. It turned out that you could have a late dinner, get ingredients you need for the lunch the next day, buy some breakfast pastries and even wash the car at 4 or 5 am. It gets pretty lively in the late-night Zagreb, reports Večernji List on June 6, 2016.

“Yes, people do wash their cars, of course. When they are going home after the party they get especially inspired”, said Jadranko Valjak, the manager at the Szabo carwash on the Dubrovnik Avenue. The carwash has been working non-stop, seven days a week, from the moment it opened in 1996. They do have customers who come very late at night, but also those who are going to work early in the morning or people who simply do not wish to wait in line during the day to wash their car.

“We have about 30 to 50 customers per night, although during the night they can only wash the outside of the vehicle using the automatic carwash system”, said Valjak, adding that the night shift has two workers. The busiest time is after midnight and after 4am, while the busiest days are Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Meanwhile, the main bus station is keeping in step, with Dubravica bakery working from 0 to 24 and the offer there is the same day and night, but they do bake smaller quantities during the night shift. “No matter the time of night, there is at least one customer in the store. These are mostly people going back home from parties, but also policemen, ambulance workers and similar professionals”, said Dragana Jozić, Dubravica retail sales coordinator.

She also explained that at Dubravica teams have been created that are working only night shifts because late shifts fit their schedules better. The members of Dubravica’s night teams of four to five workers said they never get bored. Time passes by so fast, especially during the peak tourist season when there are many customers visiting them every night.

In addition to car wash facilities and bakeries, there are also numerous pharmacies, grocery shops, petrol stations and restaurants working through the night.
