New investments coming to hospitals in Zagreb.

As part of the project of developing outpatient clinics from EU funds, nearly 52 million kuna will be invested in the adaptation of premises and purchase of equipment for the Clinical Hospital Centre in Zagreb. The project aims to increase viability of the largest Croatian hospital system and to reduce the number of patients in regular hospital departments, reports RTL on February 18, 2017.

Most of the money, 50 million kuna, will come from the European Union funds, while the rest will be covered by the Clinical Hospital Centre from its own resources. The entire project should be completed by May 2018. The value of construction works planned is about 5.5 million kuna, while the medical equipment which will be procured for 17 individual clinics and departments will be worth about 43.5 million kuna.

In addition, the project envisages investment of 860,000 kuna in the so-called horizontal inclusiveness, which will make it easier for people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups to access the outpatient clinics.

Director of the Clinical Hospital Centre in Zagreb Ante Ćorušić said that, when applying for the funding, the hospital had committed that it would by 2019 reduce the average number of days spent by patients in the hospital from the current 7.16 days to 5.85 days. It is also expected to increase the patient flow by 13 percent and to reduce the number of hospital beds by 6 percent.

The construction works will take place in three separate locations. The main Rebro location will include an ultrasound centre with the outpatient clinic for the Department of Heart and Blood Vessels Diseases, while the location at Petrova street will include an outpatient clinic which will be part of the Department of Gynaecologic Oncology. The Jordanovac location will receive an updated outpatient clinic for the Department for Lung Diseases.

The Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb is one of twelve Croatian hospitals that have received grants to improve business operations and access to outpatient clinics. The total value of the investment amounts to 575 million kuna, not including additional 100 million kuna which will be invested by the Ministry of Health. The project is co-financed by the European Union, as part of the European Regional Development Fund.
