Perfect Weather Conditions Make Italy Visible from Dalmatian Mountains

Total Croatia News

The bura wind may be cold, but it does set up the most spectaular views – all the way to Italy…

It happens very rarely that visibility is as perfect as it was this Sunday. Visibility depends on many factors, including the quantity of moisture in the air and the degree of pollution. “Bura” which was blowing during the previous days has cleansed the atmosphere around Split, so conditions were ideal for a very good visibility, which pleasantly surprised all the visitors to the Dalmatian mountains over the weekend, reports Dalmacija News on November 30, 2015.

Immediately after sunset, it was enough to climb to just 400 meters above sea level on the Dalmatian coastal mountains to see Italy. In areas above 1,000 meters above sea level, Italy was visible even during the day with unbelievable clarity. For example, Biokovo provided impressive views of the peaks of the Apennines in the middle of the day.

From the Mosor mountain, you could see Italy during sunset and early evening. Looking from Mosor, the Sun was setting just behind the highest massif of the Apennine mountains, Corno Grande (2,912 m). From Mosor, you could also see numerous other peaks, such as Corno Piccolo (2,655 m), Pizzo Intermesoli (2,646 m), Monte Corvo (2,623 m), Monte Prena (2,561 m), Monte Camicia (2,564 m), as well as the system of peaks within the mountain massif of Maiella.

The distance between these peaks and the observation point on Mosor is between 250 and 300 kilometres, but the fact that some photographers managed to film Apennine peaks from Mt. Cincar in Bosnia and Herzegovina demonstrates that visibility can sometimes be even greater.

Mt. Mosor was visited on Sunday by Karlo Repac, a photographer and member of the Crometeo team, who published his beautiful photos of the Apennine peaks seen from Mosor, as well as views of Split during sunset, on his Facebook page.
