Ministry of Tourism Providing 376,000 Kuna for Prvić Luka Beach

The project for the beach in Prvić Luka was initially presented back in May this year and the preliminary design has already been signed off by an architect from the City of Šibenik, Tomislav Krajina.

As SibenikIN writes on the 28th of September, 2019, on September the 26th, the Croatian Ministry of Tourism issued a decision on project selection and the awarding of grants under the public tourism infrastructure development program for 2019. A document signed by Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli stipulates that the City of Vodice be allocated money in the amount of 376,000 kuna for the purpose of doing up a beach in Prvić Luka.

The beach in question is Kekino žalo in Prvić Luka, which will cost a total of 1.5 million kuna. The County has already donated 200,000 kuna to the City of Vodice for the aforementioned purpose.

As stated, the project was first presented in May this year and the preliminary design was signed off by an architect from Šibenik called Tomislav Krajina. The project involves several things, including the installation of wooden structures for the proper placement of deck chairs.

However, as ŠibenikIN has already written, not all of Prvić Luka locals agree with the announced ”doing up” of the beach, especially not those who live in the immediate vicinity of Kekino žalo.

“Because of the stormy jugo (a type of aggressive wind), the fact it’s a small space and because of the close proximity of our houses, the area of Kekino žalo is not the type of place to be making a beach. We’d like to emphasise that we’re all homeowners, residents and temporary residents, and our ‘weekenders’ and our guests would also prefer for Kekino žalo to be done up within its existing conditions, which does not require any sort of project, there’s nothing that needs to be demolished, because the beauty of our coast is in the natural rocks, so, just repair the concrete and preserve the rocks that have been protecting the beach and the surrounding houses from the stormy jugo wind for thousands of years now,” stated a written response to the plan for the beach, signed by some fifty adult residents of Prvić Luka.

”Nothing will be destroyed, especially not the rocks,” Marko Lugović, head of the Administrative Department for the municipal-water system, environmental protection and construction of the City of Vodice, stated a month ago.

”If this were the case, then our environmental impact syudy would not be accepted by the conservationists or the county, and we’d not even be invited to the Ministry of Tourism for the project presentation,” he added.

Kekino žalo in Prvić Luka’s initial ”arrangement” began back in the 1950s, and it took on its present appearance in 1962. The concrete slabs that were then erected are now of course worn out, cracked and in dire need of repair. Some of the locals agree with the idea of repairing things, but not with the plan of the complete reconstruction of the beach.
