“The racks are simply lodged in a corner against the city walls so most are unusable,” local cyclists complain.
Zadar is finally a part of the nextbike public bicycle system, but the recent cleanup of a public area for this service affected those coming to the Zadar peninsula with their private bikes. The existing racks were moved in an inappropriate way, creating confusion among cyclists as they have less space to park them in rush hours, reports Zadarskilist.hr on May 30, 2016.
“The racks are simply lodged in a corner against the city walls so most are unusable. The parking space is full in the evening hours when most people come into town,” a cyclist commented in a complaint to the Zadarski List editorial staff.
The public service company Obala i Lučice knows nothing of the bicycle rack problem.
“Obala i Lučice takes care of automobiles in that area. We did not arrange the bicycle space so we don’t know what happened. However, if racks are lodged in a manner making them unusable, someone will probably contact us when the problem is recognized and we will deal with it in cooperation with City services,” said director Eduard Duka.
The public bike system will operate until November 20th of this year, run by the Sustav javnih bicikala company. There will be four locations around Zadar with 25 bikes available for rent. To use them, registration is necessary via www.nextbike.hr, with a 79 kuna membership fee, to be used as credit for bike rent. First half hour is free, with each additional hour costing 8 kuna, automatically deducted from a credit card until you return it to any location, currently on the Peninsula near the bridge, near the bus terminal, on Puntamika and on Bili Brig.
