Two acclaimed jazz musicians are coming to Pula to set the jazz season in motion

Pula is joining other Croatian cities that are about to mark International Jazz Day, reports Glas Istre on April 28, 2018.

Since UNESCO declared International Jazz Day in 2011 to “highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe”, the occasion has been celebrated each year on April 30 in countless countries all around the world.

Pula will mark International Jazz Day with a concert of Roy Young and Oleg Kireyev that will take place at the Home of Croatian Veterans on Monday, starting from 8 pm. The concert is organised by the association Cultural Initiative whose representative Milan Rašula announced their main goal is to position Pula as a jazz destination.

As stated by Rašula, this concert will kick off the jazz season in Pula. At a press conference held at the Tourist Board in Pula, the organisers invited the public to join them in this international celebration of jazz, particularly school students and retirees who will be provided a ticket free of charge.

The Russian jazz musician Oleg Kireyev is also the president of the Cultural Initiative and the art director of the entire manifestation. He announced the main concert will take place in St Petersburg in Russia, featuring jazz legends Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock. Hancock is otherwise the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and the co-chair of International Jazz Day. One day, Hancock just might come and play in Pula, remarked Kireyev, adding he considers Pula to be a beautiful city brimming with various types of music.

Kireyev will be joined by Roy Young, a British soul singer of Jamaican origin. Young is a singer who enjoys a great reputation and an incredible showman; he lives and works between Europe and New York, said Kireyev. This is not the first time for Young to be paying a visit to Pula, as he already performed in the ancient city in Istria two years ago, at the first edition of Pula Jazz Festival.

Tickets are available here at a starting price of 60 kuna, and you’ll also be able to buy them one hour before the show at the entrance to the venue.
