Total Croatia News

The annual festival takes place over the weekend.

The traditional 14th Pumpkin Festival “Bučijada” will be held in Ivanić-Grad near Zagreb from 19 to 21 October. This year’s motto is “Come! Taste! Feel! See!” This is the most visited tourist and gastronomic event in Croatia dedicated to pumpkins, and the official opening ceremony will take place at 11 am on Saturday, reports Agrobiz.hr on October 19, 2018.

The main event of Bučijada will again be a fair of pumpkins, pumpkin oil, various products made from pumpkins and other organic products. More than 200 exhibitors will present their offer to visitors, including over 30 oil producers, 80 family farms and 20 organic farms.

The local tourist board says that during Bučijada, the town park will be turned into a venue of inspiration for artists and creators, who will exhibit installations and sculptures made from pumpkins. While the youngest visitors will be able to enjoy numerous fun educational activities, such as riding in pumpkin carriages, the pumpkin train and the pumpkin fire brigade workshops, adults will also have a great time.

The programme includes shows, exhibitions, concerts, culinary presentations and tours of Ivanić-Grad. For visitors wishing to find out more about the town and its cultural and historical heritage, special interpretation tours of the town, local church and the town museum will also be organised. Visitors will be able to taste the local autochthonous wine variety Škrlet and beer made of pumpkins.

The opening of the Pumpkin Sculpture and Installation Park is scheduled for Friday in the town park, and the evening will end with the concert of tamburitza bands. On Saturday, Bučijada will be officially opened, which will be followed by a programme that will take place on the main stage and at several locations in the town. The evening will conclude with a concert by T.B.F. The entertainment will continue on Sunday.

A special tourist train from Zagreb will be organised on Saturday and Sunday, with return tickets costing just 25 kuna.
